Vietnam's plastic import volume up 10.5 per cent in 4 months

HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam imported nearly 2.2 million tonnes of plastic worth over US$2.8 billion in the first four months of this year, posting a year-on-year rise of 10.5 per cent in volume and decrease of 1.4 per cent in value, according to its Ministry of Industry and Trade on Thursday (May 7).

Between January and April, the country spent nearly $2.3 billion importing plastic products, up 14.6 per cent from the same period last year, and gained over $1.1 billion from exporting plastic products, up 1.3 per cent year-on-year, according to the ministry.

Vietnam's largest suppliers of plastic and plastics products included China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and the United States, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

In 2019, Vietnam imported nearly 6.4 million tonnes of plastic totalling more than $9 billion, up 14 per cent and down 0.8 per cent from the previous year respectively. - Xinhua
