WELLINGTON: New Zealand reported 18 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday (April 12), bringing the total number of Covid-19 (coronavirus) cases to 1,330 in the country.
Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, Director-General of Health from New Zealand Ministry of Health gave the update on daily Covid-19 press conference on Sunday.
The cases included 14 new confirmed and four new probable cases of Covid-19 on Sunday. Fourteen people are currently being treated in hospital, including five in ICU, and 471 people have recovered from the disease.
Although community transmission constitutes only two percent of the total Covid-19 cases in New Zealand, there are 13 clusters of Covid-19 outbreak across the country, including three significant clusters within retirement villages.
While the number of new cases continues to drop in the country, it is likely that there will be further death cases from retirement villages, said Bloomfield.
The nation has already reported four deaths caused by Covid-19.
New Zealand declared a national emergency and entered into a national lockdown from March 26, when people are urged to stay home. The country has also closed its border to non-residents from March 19.
From April 10, passengers from overseas entering New Zealand are required to go through government managed isolation for 14 days before any onward travel in New Zealand. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
