Covid-19 cases in Laos rise to 11


VIENTIANE: Laos reported one more Covid-19 (coronavirus) case, taking the total number of infection to 11 in the country, according to a Laos official on Sunday (April 5).

The new case is a foreign staff of a mining company in Laos.

The patient, a 55-year-old man, came from Papua New Guinea, Laos Deputy Minister of Health Phouthone Meaungpak told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Sunday.

The patient travelled from Papua New Guinea and transited trough Singapore on March 22, arrived in Thailand on March 23 and then travelled to Laos and stayed in a hotel in the same day.

On March 24, he went to a mining site in Vientiane province by a van with 11 passengers.

The patient is treated in designated hospital, Mittaphab Hospital (150 Hospital).

As of Sunday, 604 suspected cases were tested, with 11 cases tested positive, including eight cases in Vientiane and three cases in Luang Prabang province.

None of the 11 cases is in serious condition and the treatment is going well, said the official.
