SEOUL (Xinhua): Nuclear envoys of South Korea and the United States held phone talks Thursday (April 2) over the Korean Peninsula issues, according to the South Korean foreign ministry.
Lee Do-hoon, South Korea's special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, talked over phone with US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun at the request of Biegun, the ministry said in a statement.
Lee and Biegun shared views over the recent peninsula situations, discussing ways to cooperate to make substantive progress in the peninsula's complete denuclearization and the permanent peace settlement.
They agreed to closely cooperate and communicate over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) issues as they had done before, while making active efforts to contain the Covid-19 spread.
Nuclear negotiations between Pyongyang and Washington have been stalemated since the second summit between top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump ended with no agreement in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi in February last year. - Xinhua
