Thailand's Songkran festival events cancelled to avoid mass gatherings on Covid-19 spread

BANGKOK: Thailand's annual Songkran festival to be held in mid-April is appearing to be a quiet one as event organisers cancel several events to avoid mass gatherings and the spread of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

In the eastern side of Chonburi Province, Saensuk municipality mayor Narongchai Khunpluem said the annual Lai Bang Saen and sandcastle building festival, scheduled for April 16th and 17th after the Songkran holidays, will be cancelled to avoid possible spread of the virus.
