Man arrested for trafficking drugs from Laos to Vietnam

HANOI: Border guard forces of Vietnam's central Ha Tinh province have detained a Laos national for trafficking 4kg of crystal methamphetamine and 36,000 pills of amphetamine, Vietnam News Agency reported on Monday (Feb 3).

On Sunday, the border guard forces coordinated with the province's custom agency and market surveillance department to catch a 22-year-old man from the Lao province of Bolikhamxay transporting 4kg of crystal methamphetamine and 36,000 pills of amphetamine.

The drug dealer acknowledged to be hired to transport the drug from Bolikhamxay's Lak Sao town to Vietnam, the news agency reported.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death.

Making or trading 100 grammes of heroin or 300grammes of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
