MP who was punched bears no grudge

THE Member of Parliament who was punched on the mouth last week by an irate former cabby wants to put the matter behind him and focus on his work.  

Yio Chu Kang MP Seng Han Thong said yesterday that he did not want to discuss the matter further with former cabby Koo Tong Huat, who had withdrawn his apology and now wanted the MP to investigate why he was dismissed as a taxi-driver.  

“As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed. I have given my statement to the police.  

“Now, I will attend to my other responsibilities,” Seng said. 

However, he said he harboured no ill feelings towards 74-year-old Koo. 

Koo had his taxi licence revoked four years ago when he sent a threatening letter to a passenger who had complained about him.  

The company did not relent despite an appeal from Seng, on Koo’s behalf, to let him have his licence back.  

Last Thursday, Koo went to Seng’s Meet-the-People session to ask about the outcome of the appeal.  

Before the reply from ComfortDelGro could be handed to Koo, he threw the punch, the MP had said earlier. – The Straits Times / Asia News Network
