A 42-YEAR-OLD man found guilty of murdering a six-month-old Indonesian girl on Aug 5, 2002, was hanged at 6am yesterday in Changi Prison on Friday.
Soosainathan Dass Saminathan had sexually abused the infant, Anjeli Elisaputri, before sedating her, tying her limbs, and dumping her into the rubbish chute from his ninth-floor flat.
The baby and her mother, Widiyarti Kartanom, 29, a former maid, had stayed in the guest room of Soosainathans flat on the night of Aug 4 after they had arrived in Singapore from Batam to visit the childs father, Jalil Hameed, 26.
Soosainathan was Jalils friend and shared the flat with him.
Widiyarti woke up at 11.30pm to find Soosainathan in her room. He took the infant away, and she didnt resist for fear that he would scold her.
About six hours later, she became desperate when she couldnt find the child, and called the police.
The babys body was found at 7.40am at the bottom of the rubbish chute of the block.
Swabs taken from under Soosainathan's fingernails contained DNA which matched the babys.
Soosainathan was found guilty on July 15 last year, and had an appeal against his conviction dismissed on Sept 22. The Straits Times/Asia News Network
