A DIALECT song contest in Fujian will unite Chinese all over the world who are originally from the southern China province, including those from Taiwan, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore.
This first contest of its kind attracted more than 1,000 domestic and international participants speaking the Minnan (Hokkien) dialect, or the dialect in southern Fujian in south-eastern China.
And some 60 contestants have entered the finals, which began yesterday and will end tomorrow, according to the organising committee.
Over 80% of Taiwanese descended from southern Fujian people, and they share the same culture and language as southern Fujian locals. – People's Daily.
