Prioritise tourist safety ahead of Visit Sabah 2027, urges state secretary

KOTA KINABALU: Ensuring tourist safety must be a shared priority across Sabah’s entire tourism ecosystem ahead of Visit Sabah 2027, said State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman.

Zainudin said that government agencies, local authorities, activity providers, and hospitality and transport operators must collectively maintain a secure environment.

"Safety must be viewed as an essential component of quality tourism, which is why it cannot be left to just one party," Zainudin said at the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Cert International Standards Seminar 2026 (NISS 2026) on Thursday (Nov 5).

His speech was delivered by Deputy State Secretary (Development) Datuk Dr Ahemad Sade.

NIOSHCert Chairman Datuk Ayop Salleh said that safeguarding visitors requires an end-to-end management approach.

"It should encompass all aspects, including destination management, risk identification, activity planning, operator competency, clear information dissemination to participants, and reliable support services such as hospitality and transportation," Ayop said.
