Retiree loses RM342,000 in online casino investment scam

KUALA LUMPUR: A 66-year-old female retiree was cheated of RM342,000 after falling victim to an online "casino investment" syndicate based in Singapore.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said the victim was first targeted on social media, where a suspect lured her with promises of lucrative financial returns.

Enticed by the scheme, the retiree made multiple transactions totalling RM342,000 into five separate bank accounts provided by the fraudster.

"However, the victim did not receive any of the promised returns. Realising she had been duped, she lodged a police report," ACP Khairul Anuar said in a statement.

He added that no arrests have been made so far, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
