Expand electrical safety campaigns statewide, urges Liawan rep

KOTA KINABALU: Public awareness campaigns on electrical safety must be expanded across Sabah, said Liawan assemblyman Datuk Nik Mohd Nadzri Nik Zawawi.

Speaking at a Sabah Electricity safety event in Keningau on Wednesday (Nov 4), Nik Mohd Nadzri said that basic public education is crucial.

“I hope local and community leaders who are present for this event today can help spread information on the importance of safety when dealing with electricity to their villagers,” he said.

The assemblyman also said that there is a need for cooperation between government agencies and Sabah Electricity.

He called for the fast-tracking of power connections to newly constructed Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) homes for underprivileged residents.

“This is so that people can start enjoying benefits from the government quickly,” he added.

Addressing ongoing utility challenges, Nik Mohd Nadzri appealed for public patience while Sabah Electricity works to stabilise the regional grid.

He said that cable theft remains a major cause of widespread power outages and proposed installing solar-powered CCTV cameras at key hotspots to deter vandals.
