GEORGE TOWN: In today’s fast-evolving industrial landscape, keeping pace with technological advancements is no longer optional but a necessity.
Against this backdrop, AUTOMEX Penang 2026 opened its doors at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre yesterday, featuring a strong line-up of global technology providers.
It allowed industry decision-makers to explore the latest in automation, robotics, smart manufacturing, semiconductor technologies, machine vision, industrial software and Industry 4.0 solutions.
Beyond showcasing technological advancements, the trade show also provided opportunities for stakeholders to form new strategic partnerships.
Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo said the state’s well-established industrial ecosystem, built over decades, must continue pushing forward.
“Our industry is progressing rapidly. Even AI might be outdated soon. Such is the speed in which technology moves in the world.
“Penang has to keep up and be at par, if not overtake, the world,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony.
State trade and national unity committee chairman Goh Choon Aik said the event highlights the future of manufacturing and raises the important question of who gets to be a part of it.
“Evolving supply chain requirements, rising operating costs and intensifying global competition mean businesses must constantly upgrade their capabilities.
“Automation, robotics, AI and machine vision can improve productivity, quality and operational efficiency. This is essential for us to stay competitive both domestically and internationally,” Goh added.
AUTOMEX Penang 2026 – which runs until tomorrow – is the event’s second edition following a successful debut last year.
It is organised by Informa Markets in collaboration with the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA).
Informa Markets Malaysia Sdn Bhd country general manager Derrick Yeoh said there are over 300 participating brands and companies this time, with over 1,000 products and innovations.
The exhibition covers some 6,000sq m of floor space and is expected to draw around 6,000 attendees over its three-day run.
“By bringing the right people together, businesses can find practical solutions and collaborate. For decades, innovation has been at the heart of Penang’s manufacturing success.
“The task is to build on those foundations by developing local expertise, strengthening technologies and helping Malaysian companies move towards higher-value work,” Yeoh said.
MSIA president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said the event demonstrates what can be achieved when stakeholders come together with a shared purpose.
Besides the exhibition, there is also the Silicon Malaysia Conference featuring 15 global industry leaders, alongside executive masterclasses.
“Together, these platforms offer attendees valuable, forward-looking international insights, knowledge exchange and business networking opportunities.
“We hope it translates into meaningful partnerships that contribute to the advancement of the country’s semiconductor and manufacturing industry,” Wong added.
Also present for the opening was InvestPenang CEO Datuk Seri Loo Lee Lian.
The event is open to trade, professional and business visitors only. For details, visit www.automex.com.my.
