KOTA KINABALU: Books are windows to knowledge, while knowledge unlocks potential that brings development to nations, says special officer to the Chief Minister Yee Tsai Yiew.

She said with the rapidly developing world, knowledge that comes from reading remains a powerful tool to bring changes.

“And perhaps that is where changing the world begins - by encouraging the next generation to pick up a book. When we encourage children to read, we encourage them to think, to question, to imagine and to discover what is possible,” she said.

Yee said this when opening the Big Bad Wolf Book sales which runs from Oct 30 to Nov 9 at the Sabah International Convention Centre here Friday (Oct 30).

“This is why initiatives such as Big Bad Wolf Books are so important. By making books more affordable and accessible, more families have the opportunity to discover the joy of reading,” she said.

She said the Sabah government welcomes initiatives that support education, lifelong learning and community development and hopes to see more efforts like this reaching communities throughout the state.

“I am also pleased that this year's book sale coincides with BIGSABAH Sale 2026, bringing more visitors to Kota Kinabalu while supporting our local economy,” said Yee.

She said beyond the books and excitement of this event, she hoped the public will remember the lasting value of reading.

Over a millions books with some 40% new titles are up for grabs with special discounts and rebates throughout this sales period.
