PETALING JAYA: Perlis Mentri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah says he will appeal against his suspension from Bersatu.
He said he accepted the decision by the party’s disciplinary board but would challenge it through the proper channels, reported Sinar Harian.
Abu Bakar stressed that the suspension would not affect his position as Mentri Besar or disrupt the state administration.
“The suspension has no impact on the state administration. Certain parties should not be confused about this.
“As a party leader or member, the suspension is a party matter. As Mentri Besar, I will continue administering the state in accordance with the Perlis State Constitution,” he said on Wednesday (Oct 21) night.
Abu Bakar’s membership was suspended for two party election terms, with effect from Oct 13 over alleged breaches of Clause 9.1.4 of Bersatu’s constitution and the party’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
Perlis Bersatu chairman Izizam Ibrahim had confirmed the suspension after receiving a letter dated Oct 14, signed by Bersatu Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan.
Abu Bakar was also stripped of all party positions but given 14 days to appeal to the party’s Appeal Board.
Meanwhile, Perlis State Legislative Assembly Speaker Rus’sele Eizan said on Wednesday that the state administration was continuing as usual without any disruption.
However, he said the state leadership’s position depended on the stance of the six PAS assemblymen in Perlis.
