KUALA LUMPUR: A claim that a minister received RM9.5mil in connection with a purported corporate crime-linked matter is a political allegation not supported by evidence, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the minister concerned had challenged the claim, responded to it and brought the matter to court.
"The allegation is a political statement that is not supported by evidence," he told the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Oct 20).
He said allegations of wrongdoing would be investigated without exception, but stressed that no one should be judged before investigations were completed and the matter was brought before the courts.
Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) wanted to know about investigations of alleged corporate crime activities and referred to a podcast claim that a minister received RM9.5mil to act as an intermediary in resolving a related matter.
Rosol also named several individuals while raising the issue.
Anwar said misappropriation was not confined to any political party and that he would not use his authority to stop action against anyone, including members of his own party.
"There have been prosecution cases involving members of PKR. I did not obstruct or use my powers to stop them, including (the case against) my former political secretary recently," he said.
He added that allegations should be supported by evidence and dealt with through the proper legal process.
"If there is evidence, disclose it. That is the difference," he said.
