Restaurant workers claim trial to CBT involving over RM58,000

KUANTAN: Two restaurant workers pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to nine counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving transactions totalling more than RM58,000.

Restaurant manager Siti Norsuzuanie Ali, 29, and assistant manager Muhammad Zulhilmi Ahyauddin, 24, claimed trial before judge Sazlina Safie on Friday (Oct 16).

They are jointly charged with committing CBT by manipulating refund transactions in the system involving 1,199 receipts amounting to RM58,400.30 for their own use without the company’s authorisation.

The offences were allegedly committed between 9am and 10pm at the restaurant chain's Pekan branch from January until last month.

The charges were framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of 14 years and caning, and the offenders may also be fined upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Azizah Ahmad proposed bail of RM30,000 for each accused, with additional conditions that they stay away from witnesses, surrender their passports to the court and report to the nearest police station every month.

However, counsel for both accused, Datuk Zaharman Zainal Abidin, appealed for a lower bail.

The court set bail at RM9,000 for each accused and approved all the additional conditions proposed by the prosecution.

The court also fixed Nov 23 for mention. – Bernama
