PETALING JAYA: PAS has extended its condolences to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family following the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, at the National Heart Institute on Sunday (Sept 28).
PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said Dr Siti Hasmah, who was recorded as the first woman in Malaysia to serve as a government medical officer, had also played a role in advancing the status of Malaysian women in various fields, including health, education and the economy during Dr Mahathir’s tenure as prime minister.
“PAS members in particular and Malaysians generally also feel the loss of this mother of the nation,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Takiyuddin extended his condolences to Dr Mahathir and the family, describing Dr Siti Hasmah as a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
He prayed that her soul would be placed among the righteous.
“Indeed, we belong to God and to Him we shall return,” he said.
Dr Siti Hasmah was among Malaysia’s earliest Malay women doctors known for her contributions to public health, women’s welfare, education and social causes.
She died at the age of 100.
