PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed his sadness over the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, paying tribute to her contributions to the nation.
"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 28).
"Tun Siti Hasmah devoted much of her life to the service of the nation," he said. "Beyond her distinguished contributions as a doctor and a national figure, she was admired for her warmth, grace, humility and quiet strength."
"Her presence and contributions have touched many lives, and she will be remembered with great respect and affection by Malaysians," he added.
Dr Wee also conveyed his sympathy to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family.
"My deepest condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family," he said.
"May they find strength and comfort in the love of family and friends, and in the many cherished memories of a life so meaningfully lived."
Dr Siti Hasmah, who was the wife of Dr Mahathir, was among Malaysia’s earliest Malay women doctors.
She was born in Klang, Selangor, on July 12, 1926, and passed away at the age of 100.
