KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional is considering using the logo of PAS or another component party in the Melaka state election if its own logo remains unavailable due to the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) suspension order.
Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said using a component party’s logo was one of the options being considered to ensure the coalition’s cooperation could continue in the election.
According to a Sinar Harian report, he said there was no requirement for parties working together in an election to use their respective logos, as they could instead adopt the logo of one of the component parties.
“A party can use the logo of any party that shows they are united or working together, even if they do not have a coalition,” he said after officiating the Bunut Payung state constituency’s Karnival Cakna Rakyat at Lembah Sireh here on Saturday (Sept 26).
Takiyuddin said there was a precedent for parties using another party’s logo, citing the 2018 general election when DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) contested under the PKR logo before Pakatan Harapan (PH) adopted a common logo.
"So what is wrong if one of the parties in this coalition, Pas or another party, wants to use another party’s logo?
"It is not an offence under election laws.
"This is one of the options available to us if Perikatan remains suspended," he said.
He said Pas had no issue contesting under its own logo and expressed hope that Bersatu would do the same in Melaka.
"We want Bersatu to use the Bersatu logo in Melaka and we will see how it goes," he said.
On Tuesday, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly effective Wednesday, paving the way for the 16th Melaka state election.
Takiyuddin said Perikatan currently comprised six parties — Pas, Bersatu, Gerakan, Parti Rakyat India Malaysia, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air and Parti Bersekutu Sarawak.
He said the other five parties would continue to have strong ties with one another should Bersatu decide to leave Perikatan.
