PETALING JAYA: A total of 12 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 10am Tuesday (Sept 22).
According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Sibu in Sarawak recorded the highest API reading at 178, followed by Mukah and Sri Aman at 169, IPD Serian (159), Sarikei (157) and Kuching (157).
Other areas in Sarawak with unhealthy air quality were Samalaju and Bintulu (156), Kapit (155) and Samarahan (154).
In the peninsula, only Putrajaya and Nilai, Negri Sembilan, recorded unhealthy API readings of 135 and 108, respectively.
Three areas recorded good API readings - Langkawi, Kedah (47); Tanah Merah, Kelantan (43); and Balik Pulau, Penang (38) - while 53 other monitoring stations recorded moderate API readings.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).
