Haze: Schools in Lubok Antu, Kanowit closed today

KUCHING: All primary and secondary schools under the Lubok Antu and Kanowit District Education Offices were temporarily closed on Monday (Sept 21) following the worsening haze conditions.

Sarawak State Education Department said it made the decision based on the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings recorded in the area at 9am on Monday.

"As such, the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) session will be implemented," it said in a statement on Monday.

Sarawak Education Department also said that for schools in these districts with API readings exceeding 200, school headmasters and principals could consider implementing the PdPR session to safeguard children's health and safety.

"If the API readings show a downward trend (readings below 200), then they can take steps to prepare for the reopening of schools," it added. – Bernama
