Cops seize RM70,000 in untaxed alcohol, arrest man in Slim River raid

IPOH: Police arrested a 28-year-old man and seized 1,706 bottles of liquor worth an estimated RM70,000 during a raid at a house in Kampung Batu 4, Slim River.

Muallim OCPD Supt Khalid Mohamad said the raid was conducted at about 3.55pm on Nov 4 by a team from the Northern Brigade Headquarters’ Intelligence Branch of the General Operations Force (GOF) in Ulu Kinta under Ops Taring Alpha 2.

He said the seized liquor comprised various brands of beer, whisky, gin, vodka and cognac.

“The liquor is suspected to be untaxed as it did not bear valid Customs duty stamps.

“The suspect, who was the owner of the premises, was arrested during the operation,” he said in a statement Thursday (Nov 5).

Supt Khalid said the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

He said the seized items would be handed over to the Customs Department and the Chemistry Department for analysis.

Those with information on smuggling or other criminal activities are urged to contact the nearest police station.
