KUCHING: The family of the late nurse Debra Moset, who was killed in a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, on Sunday (Sept 20), received cash assistance under the National Welfare Foundation's Assistance to Families/Victims of Disasters programme.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the assistance was provided to support the victim's family as they cope with the difficult period.
"This assistance is one of the forms of initial support for the victim's family. In circumstances like this, our presence and attention are important so that grieving families do not feel alone.
"The sudden loss of a loved one is not easy to accept. This contribution cannot replace the life that has been lost, but I hope it can help ease the family's burden to some extent," she said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 20).
Nancy, who is also the foundation’s Board of Trustees chairman, earlier visited the late nurse's family at Kampung Semadang, Padawan, to present the RM3,000 cash assistance.
The statement said the late nurse's mother, Renog Rasas, received RM300 in cash under the Immediate Assistance Fund and had been recommended for the Senior Citizen Assistance of RM600 a month from October.
Under the state Social Welfare Department initiative, the victim's mother's application for the Kenyalang Gold Card and Senior Citizen Health Benefit is being processed for approval.
Debra, 40, was among five people killed in the helicopter crash in Long Lellang on Sept 8 while travelling to provide healthcare services to communities in remote areas in northern Sarawak. – Bernama
