PETALING JAYA: The Prisons Department has yet to receive an official writen notice on the conditional pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The department said it is prepared to implement any official directive from the relevant authorities.
"In this regard, in line with the statement made by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Sept 19, the Home Ministry and the Prisons Department are still awaiting official written notification regarding the decision before any further action to implement it can be determined.
"Any notification and official documents relating to the decision of the Pardons Board will be conveyed through the appropriate official channels before being submitted to the Prisons Department for further action.
"The Prisons Department is always prepared to implement any official directives received from the relevant authorities, in accordance with the provisions of the law, prison regulations, as well as the procedures and protocols currently in force. The department will implement any decisions and directives received in an orderly, professional and integrity-driven manner, in accordance with the provisions of the law and the decisions of the relevant authorities," it said in a statement Sunday (Sept 20).
It reiterated that based on the previously released statement of the conditional pardon, it allowed the former prime minister to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the imposed conditions, including the payment of a RM50mil fine.
"In this regard, the Malaysian Prisons Department urges all parties to refer to official sources and refrain from making any speculation regarding the implementation of the decision," it said.
On Friday (Sept 18), the former prime minister was granted a conditional pardon, allowing him to him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, provided he pays a reduced fine of RM50mil.
However, apart from the SRC International case, Najib still faces various jail sentences and fines in other cases as he is entangled in multiple legal battles.
Among others, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.38bil in December 2025 on four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.28bil in 1MDB funds.
That case is currently on appeal.
