KUALA LUMPUR: A serial offender with 27 offences on his criminal record has been arrested for allegedly abusing his wife.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said Hospital Ampang notified police of the suspected abuse on Aug 29.
"A report was lodged after the hospital treated the victim, a woman in her 40s, who was allegedly assaulted and slashed with a sharp weapon by the suspect, her husband through an unregistered marriage," he said on Wednesday (Sept 16).
"The victim was injured and admitted to the orthopaedic ward before lodging a police report herself after being discharged from hospital on Sept 4."
SAC Sazalee said that acting on information gathered, police arrested the suspect on Sept 8 at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
The suspect, in his 30s, is unemployed.
"Further checks found that the suspect is a repeat offender with 27 previous offences, comprising 15 criminal cases and 12 cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
"A urine test on the suspect also came back positive for drugs," he said.
He added that the suspect has been released on police bail while investigations are ongoing under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.
