PETALING JAYA: The National Registration Department officially introduced the new-generation national identity card, or MyKad, featuring an all-new design and a range of security enhancements on Wednesday (Sept 16).
On its Facebook page, the NRD said each new element on the new-generation MyKad is reinforced with security features.
“Have you seen the official look of the New Generation MyKad? Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the exciting features introduced with this update.
“From the Dynamic Security Hologram and Transparent Window on the front to the Enforcement QR Code and Dual-Interface Chip on the back—each element is part of the upgrade that makes the New Generation MyKad more modern and reinforced with state-of-the-art security features,” the NRD said.
On Tuesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail urged Malaysians not to rush to replace their MyKad when applying for the new version opens on Thursday, to avoid congestion at NRD offices.
He said the new MyKad comes with about 50 additional security features that would be rolled out in phases, while existing cards would remain valid for daily transactions.
