PETALING JAYA: The authority to defer Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pardon application rests with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, says Hannah Yeoh.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) said the authority and final decision in such matters rest with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, in accordance with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
"As a member of the Pardons Board and having considered the written opinion of the Attorney General, I provided my views in my capacity as the minister responsible for the Federal Territories at the official meeting of the Pardons Board last Friday (Sept 11).

"I stated my views honestly, guided by my conscience and with the best interests of the nation in mind," she said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 16).
"In accordance with Article 42 of the Constitution, the authority and final decision rest with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong including the decision to defer Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pardon bid," she added.
On Tuesday (Sept 15), Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said told the media to refer questions on the matter to Yeoh.
On Friday, His Majesty consented to defer Najib’s application to the next Pardons Board meeting.
