SEREMBAN: Any attempt to table a motion for a vote of no confidence against Mentri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim at the upcoming state assembly will not be allowed, says Speaker Datuk Seri Dr Awaludin Said.
“I will not allow issues related to unverified matters to be brought into the House.
“The House is the highest legislative institution for making laws and policies, and we cannot discuss matters that are illegal under state laws.
“I will only allow a motion if the state government has made a decision on it,” he told reporters at the launch of a state government programme to assist the needy.
Ismail, who attended the event, declined to comment on the adat issue.
The Speaker was commenting on talk that elected representatives from Barisan Nasional or Perikatan Nasional were planning to oust the Mentri Besar during the next assembly meeting scheduled for Oct 16.
The meeting, which will be opened by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, will be held over five days.
Awaludin said he had not received any official notice or heard talk of such a move following recent developments surrounding the adat (customary law) crisis in the state.
He also appealed to the public to be patient and not to speculate on the matter.
“For me, what is important is that the state government has been formed, the Mentri Besar appointed, the exco and assemblymen sworn in.
“Let’s give the state government time to resolve the issues before us.
“Do not listen too much to allegations and assumptions which are mostly untrue.”
On Sept 5, the Undang of Johol Datuk Mohammed Abdullah, Tunku Besar Tampin Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri and Dato’ Shahbandar Sungei Ujong Datuk Seri Utama Badarudin Abd Khalid, Datuk Mubarak Dohak, Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad and Abdul Rahim Yasin, had claimed Ismail had signed a proclamation endorsing the deposition of Tuanku Muhriz as state Ruler.
They claimed Ismail signed the document at Istana Laguna Biru in Port Dickson on Aug 3.
Mubarak is the former Undang of Sungei Ujong, while Maarof is the former Undang of Jelebu and Abdul Rahim the former Undang of Rembau.
In response, Ismail said he had been made to sign the document under duress and had lodged a police report for the matter to be investigated.
Ismail said the state government was of the position that the document failed to meet the processes and procedures stipulated under Article 10 of the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959, making it void, unconstitutional and unenforceable.
He also pledged his loyalty to Tuanku Muhriz as the sole legitimate and sovereign Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.
