BN regains ground among voters in Johor, Negri Sembilan, says Asyraf

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional has seen a significant recovery in support among Chinese, Indian and Malay voters in Johor and Negri Sembilan, with the trend also reflected among younger voters, says Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said Chinese support for Barisan in Johor rose from 9.5% in the 2022 general election to 20% in the 2026 state election, while support in Negri Sembilan increased from 8.7% to 14%.

Indian support also recorded a sharp increase in Johor, rising from 18.9% in 2022 to 54.8% this year.

Asyraf said Barisan also recorded stronger support among Malay voters in both states.

He said Malay support for Barisan in Negri Sembilan rose from 45.8% in 2022 to 79% this year, while support in Johor increased from 44.9% to 82.4%.

“This is a reflection of the people's confidence that has returned to the struggle of Umno and Barisan Nasional,” he said at the opening of the Umno general assembly at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, on Friday (Sept 11).

Asyraf also credited the coalition's component parties and machinery for the increase in support, while congratulating MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran.

He said Barisan also won all Malay youth voting channels in Johor and Negri Sembilan, which he described as an encouraging sign of younger voters returning to Umno.

Military and Felda voters also contributed to Barisan’s performance, with Barisan winning all 14 military camp channels in Johor with 82.1% support, he said.

In Negri Sembilan, he said Barisan secured 92.47% of military votes through cooperation with PAS and other Perikatan Nasional parties, winning all 88 military channels.

He also highlighted Barisan's strong performance in all Felda polling districts in Johor and Negri Sembilan.

Asyraf said the results showed that Barisan's support was strengthening across different segments of the electorate.
