Rain induction to continue

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Cloud seeding operations will continue to improve air pollutant index (API) readings in areas affected by the haze in Sarawak, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

The Deputy Prime Minister and National Disaster Management Agency chairman said two areas, namely Kuching and Sri Aman, were recording very unhealthy API levels.

“The situation in Serian has improved, and we hope that with the Malaysia Day celebrations taking place in Kuching, the haze situation will improve with cloud seeding operations.

“The operations will continue depending on the wind direction and location of the clouds.

“We are also receiving advice from MetMalaysia on where cloud seeding should be carried out based on the wind direction,” he told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the National Orang Asli Sports Carnival at the EduCity Sports Complex here yesterday.

Checks on the Air Pollutant Index Management System as of 2.30pm yesterday showed Sri Aman recording an API of 220, while Kuching was at 197.
