KOTA TINGGI: The body of a 16-year-old boy has been found while three other teenagers remain missing after six youths encountered difficulties while swimming at Pantai Tanjung Lompat, Tanjung Balau, here on Wednesday (Sept 2).
Penawar Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Muhammad Adib Tarmuzi said the body was found about 500m from the incident location at around 1.25pm.
He said the department received an emergency call at 8.19am and arrived at the scene about 11 minutes later.
“Initial information from members of the public indicated that six victims had drowned while swimming at the beach.
“Two of the victims were rescued by members of the public before we arrived and were handed over to the Health Ministry for further treatment,” he said.
Muhammad Adib said firefighters initially conducted a search along the shoreline for the remaining four victims.
At about noon, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department deployed a drone unit to assist in the search operation.
“The victim found at about 1.25pm was identified as Alif Taqiuddin Kamal Hasrul, 16, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel,” he said.
The search and rescue operation is being conducted with the involvement of multiple agencies, including the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, police, Civil Defence Force, and Health Ministry.
A total of 35 personnel from the various agencies are involved in the operation, which is still ongoing.
