Cops probe viral video of headscarves with incomplete Jalur Gemilang pattern

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a video clip that has gone viral depicting the sale of headscarves, allegedly featuring incomplete Jalur Gemilang patterns, at a supermarket in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said they received a report regarding the matter at about 4.49pm on Saturday (Aug 29).

"Initial investigations found that only some of the headscarves, which the supermarket received from a supplier, had incomplete Jalur Gemilang patterns.

"The supermarket took immediate action by removing and separating the headscarves identified as having the incorrect patterns from the sales area to prevent them from being sold,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 30).

ACP Wan Azlan said that following the circulation of the video, police were conducting investigations under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 regarding the use of the Jalur Gemilang that did not comply with the prescribed specifications.

Investigations are also being carried out under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally insulting with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

"The public is advised not to speculate on the matter and let the police conduct their investigation,” he said, while urging witnesses to channel information to the Subang Jaya District Police Headquarters at 03-7862 7100. – Bernama
