IPOH: There are many ways to show your love for your country, and environmental conservation is surely one of it.
With that in mind, three NGOs will spearhead the Merdeka Trash4Food programme at 3.30pm today at the Kinta Heights Flats.
The NGOs are the Koperasi Alam Hijau Perak Bhd (Kohijau), Ipoh City Watch (ICW) and Lions Club of Perak Silver State.
ICW president Dr Richard Ng said the programme, which was in its fifth year, aimed to promote a recycling culture, through the exchange of recyclables for groceries.
“We except participants to mainly bring in plastic bottles to exchange for RM30 worth of groceries. But, for those who bring in more, we will weigh and pay according to market price,” he said when contacted.
Ng hopes that the programme will encourage people, including senior citizens, to embrace a recycling habit.”
ICW promotes a better liveable city while Kohijau promotes recycling and environmental sustainability.
Ng said the recyclables collected would be sold to a recycling centre.
“For those who insert microplastics into mineral bottles and turn it into eco-bricks, we will buy it at 20 sen per bottle.”
Ng said the Jalur Gemilang would also be distributed to participants.
“There will be a talk on the significance of National Day, besides tips on recycling and keeping the environment clean. There will also be a talk on diabetes.”
