Pahang examines long-term solution to address shallow river issue

MARAN: The Pahang government will look into long-term solutions to overcome the problem of the shallow Sungai Pahang in several specific areas, including Kampung Pesagi, here.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the state government is currently obtaining a complete report from relevant parties on the condition of the river before further action can be decided.

He said the report is important to enable the state government to identify the most suitable methods, including the implementation of short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures to address the issue.

"Right now, I am requesting a report from the district authorities and I will bring it to the exco meeting for us to review, scrutinise and refine for further action," he said.

He said this when asked by reporters about the issue after attending the inauguration and handover ceremony of the completed pipe replacement project in the Maran district at the Chenor Water Treatment Plant here on Friday (Aug 28).

Wan Rosdy said the state government takes the issue seriously because it affects the economy and activities of residents near the Sungai Pahang, and any actions taken must be based on a comprehensive study to ensure an effective solution.

Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy said the implementation of the pipe replacement programme to address water supply issues and the development of energy infrastructure projects continues to be a priority for the Pahang government in strengthening basic facilities and accelerating the state's development.

"Four districts have recorded a resolution rate exceeding 90 per cent, while Maran is expected to follow suit in the state government's efforts to address the water supply issue," he said.

He said the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) infrastructure project in Kampung Awah, which involves the construction of a 500kV Transmission Main Intake Substation (PMU), is expected to benefit Pahang by attracting more investors to the state.

It is said that the project involves an allocation of approximately RM350mil and is expected to be completed by 2030.

Wan Rosdy also said that this network will connect strategic locations in the East Coast, thereby building a more robust, resilient energy system ready to support future energy needs.

He added that infrastructure development and the continuous implementation of investment projects are important in boosting the state's economy, creating job opportunities, and improving the well-being of the people. - Bernama
