Sabah working to prevent entry of new ‘zombie’ drug

KOTA KINABALU: Security forces in Sabah must do all they can to prevent the entry of a new type of drug known as “blackout” or “zombie” into the state, says Datuk Masiung Banah.

The Kuamut assemblyman said this new type of drug is reported to be “a hundred times stronger than morphine”.

“After the nation was hit by magic mushroom vape drugs, we are now threatened with this new drug.

“Although there have been no reports of it entering Sabah as yet, the authorities must put in place preventive measures now,” he said in a statement.

Masiung said the liquid form of the synthetic drug can be added into vape juice, food or drinks and on cigarettes before they are lit.

According to the National Anti-Drug Agency, the new drug can cause a user to feel more ‘high’ and lead to unconsciousness due to its higher dose levels.

Masiung warned that the drug contains ingredients like ketamine and a type of psychotropic poison that is detrimental to the nervous system.

“Reports say this illegal substance has entered the country through sea and air routes,” he said, adding that there is a possibility that the drug was processed by international and local syndicates for the black market in Malaysia.
