IPOH: Police arrested a 32-year-old man believed to have injured an elderly woman while robbing her at her home in Langkap, Teluk Intan.
Hilir Perak Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said the suspect was arrested in Slim River on Tuesday (Aug 11) at about 2.30am, following a report that was lodged by the victim on Aug 3.
ACP Chua said the suspect is believed to have wielded a machete and snatched a gold bracelet worth about RM6,000 from the victim during the incident.
"We found and seized the item that was believed to have been stolen from the victim during the arrest.
"The Teluk Intan Magistrate's Court allowed a seven-day remand order against the suspect to facilitate investigation under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt during a robbery.
"If convicted, the suspect could face up to 20 years in jail and a fine or whipping," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 12).
ACP Chua urged the public, particularly residents, to strengthen home security measures at night and in the early morning hours.
"The people should ensure that all doors, windows and other entry points are locked properly.
"They should also not keep large amounts of money or valuables at home," he added.
