MUKAH: Police arrested an oil palm plantation labourer after discovering a firearm believed to be an air rifle, a samurai sword, and drugs suspected to be syabu during a raid on a house along the Selangau-Mukah Road on Wednesday (Aug 5) morning.
Mukah OCPD Deputy Supt Muhamad Rizal Alias said the 36-year-local man was initially suspected of involvement in drug abuse.
He said that an inspection of the suspect led to the discovery of a transparent straw segment containing crystal lumps weighing approximately 0.46g, suspected to be methamphetamine or syabu, inside a cigarette box kept in his sling bag.
"Further inspection inside the suspect's room also led to the discovery of a firearm believed to be an air rifle, a 79cm-long samurai sword, 80 marbles believed to be used as ammunition, and a transparent plastic spray bottle," he said in a statement Thursday (Aug 6).
Muhamad Rizal added that the suspect has not made any admission regarding the ownership of the weapons so far, and investigations are still ongoing.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for possessing a firearm without a valid licence, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possessing an offensive weapon, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption.
The suspect has no prior criminal record and has been remanded until Aug 9 to assist with the investigation. - Bernama
