IPOH: A father’s desperate search for his 29-year-old daughter has stretched into months of uncertainty, with February marking the last time he spoke to her.
Lew Choon Yong, a 62-year-old chef, said he last saw his daughter Lew Tien Ying in October when he sent her to the bus station as she left for work in Singapore.
And during their last conversation after Chinese New Year, he noticed his daughter sounded confused and unlike her usual self.
His concerns deepened after receiving bank notices in late February and March regarding overdue payments on a credit card linked to her.
“I tried calling her repeatedly, but all my calls went unanswered. I lodged a police report in March and also checked with the Immigration Department.
“I was informed that she had left Singapore and entered Malaysia,” Lew told a press conference organised by Menglembu assemblyman Chaw Kam Foon yesterday.
He also discovered that the company his daughter had been working for in Singapore had ceased operations.
Lew said he was particularly concerned about a man who had been accompanying his daughter, claiming that the man called him in April using his daughter’s cellphone and spoke to him rudely.
“I believe the man was involved in a scam, and I am worried my daughter has fallen victim to him,” he said.
Chaw urged the authorities to intensify efforts to locate Tien Ying, adding that he would also use social media to rally public support in finding her.
He appealed to those with information on her whereabouts to contact the police or his service centre at 05-281 0608.
