IPOH: A father’s search for his 29-year-old daughter has stretched into months of anguish, with February marking the last time he heard from her and no word since on where she is or whether she is safe.
Lew Choon Yong, 62, a cook at a restaurant here, said the last time he saw his daughter was in October last year, when he sent her to the bus station before she left to work in Singapore.
He said they seldom communicated, and last spoke to her after Chinese New Year this year in February.
Lew became increasingly worried after he was unable to contact her and began receiving notices from the bank over unpaid payments involving a credit card linked to her.
He said when he spoke to her in February, she sounded confused and not herself.
“My suspicion grew after repeatedly receiving the bank notices around the end of February and March.
“I tried calling her, but all calls went unanswered. I lodged police reports in March as well as checked with the Immigration Department.
“When I checked with the department, I was informed she had come out of Singapore and entered Malaysia,” he told a press conference organised by Menglembu assemblyman Chaw Kam Foon at his service centre here on Wednesday (Aug 5).
Lew said he also found out that the company his daughter had been working for in Singapore had closed down.
“I am concerned about a man who had been accompanying my daughter, as he had once called me in April using my daughter’s phone, and speaking rudely to me.
“I believe that the man was involved in a scam and I am concerned that my daughter might have fallen victim to him.
“I am worried that my daughter could have been held somewhere against her will or was in some form of trouble,” he said.
Chaw hoped the authorities would help locate the missing woman.
“I will use social media to help locate the missing woman,” he said.
He urged anyone with information on her whereabouts to come forward and assist the family in their search.
He said those with information could call the nearest police station or his service centre at 05-2810608.
