IPOH: To mark the National Month celebrations, a patriotic traditional barber is offering free haircuts.
And to make it extra special, M. Selvaraj is also throwing in free meals on Aug 8 ahead of National Day.
“On Aug 31, there will be heavy traffic and road closures. So I decided to offer the free haircuts and meals earlier to make it convenient for more people to come,” he said at his shop behind the Jalan Bijih Timah flats in Ipoh Old Town here yesterday.
Selvaraj, 39, said he was preparing for about 100 people to turn up. “My doors will be open from 9am to 4pm,” he said.
Selvaraj said the main objective was to help those in need, mainly the homeless and underprivileged.
He said he was inspired to offer the free services after volunteering for a programme with an NGO recently.
Selvaraj said posters had been put up at supermarkets, markets and flats around the city to publicise his offerings.
“After the haircut, a packet of nasi lemak and a bottle of mineral water will be handed to each person,” he said, adding that he will proudly fly the Jalur Gemilang at his shop from next week.
