A THIEF who fled after being startled by a watchdog returned about 90 minutes later to steal a pet bird from a cage hanging outside a house.

The incident occurred in the morning yesterday in Taman Ria Jaya, Sungai Petani, Kedah, reported China Press.

CCTV footage showed the suspect attempting to climb over the front wall and enter the house compound at about 3.45am, before fleeing when a watchdog approached him.

Although the dog was small, the suspect appeared to be afraid of dogs and quickly ran off. However, he returned about an hour and a half later and made off with the bird cage before fleeing again.

> Taiwanese actress and model Lin Chi-ling said she would pay a fine if authorities found she had broken the law by releasing a sky lantern on railway tracks during a family trip two years ago.

The case was referred to the authorities after someone lodged a complaint over photographs showing Lin, her husband, Japanese actor Akira (Ryohei Kurosawa), and their son releasing a sky lantern on the tracks in the scenic mountain village of Shifen.

The incident attracted little attention at the time but resurfaced recently amid renewed scrutiny over the legality of the practice, Oriental Daily reported.

If found to have breached the regulations, Lin could face a maximum fine of NT$50,000 (RM6,322).

Responding through her manager, Lin said: “If the law requires me to pay a fine, I will do so. Thank you for everyone’s concern.”
