JOHOR BARU: Police are looking for an e-hailing driver whose dashcam recording went viral after capturing a passenger allegedly making insulting remarks about Islam and the Quran.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei said a police officer lodged a report at 3.25pm on Friday (July 31) after spotting the clip on social media.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident took place at around 5.55pm on Thursday (July 30) within the Johor Baru city area.
"The recording captured a conversation between a man believed to be the e-hailing driver and his passenger, during which the passenger made statements that touch on religious sensitivities and allegedly insult Islam," ACP Azrul Hisham said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 1).
He added that police are working to locate the driver to assist with investigations and establish the identity of the passenger.
ACP Azrul Hisham urged the public to refrain from speculating or sharing unverified information that could disrupt public order or compromise ongoing investigations.
