KUALA LUMPUR: Defending national sovereignty is a shared responsibility that does not rest solely with security forces, says Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pic).
He said the people aren’t required to take up arms, but could play their part by instilling patriotism, streng- thening unity, supporting security forces and avoiding actions that could undermine national sovereignty.
“This is the spirit of Total Defence. Their (the nation’s heroes and warriors) courage and sacrifices have laid the foundation for the peace and prosperity we enjoy today.
“On behalf of the government, the Defence Ministry and all Malaysians, I wish to express my deepest appreciation to members of the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Royal Malaysia Police and veterans for their service and sacrifices to the nation,” he said on social media in conjunction with Warriors’ Day yesterday.
He expressed hope that the spirit of heroism displayed by the nation’s warriors would continue to live on in the hearts of all Malaysians, helping to ensure that the country remains peaceful, sovereign and prosperous.
