SEREMBAN: The practice of offering bribes to voters during election campaigns must be rejected and should not be allowed to occur, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan Nasional chairman said any party found to be involved in such an act should be handed over to the authorities for investigation and appropriate action.

“If it is found to be true and there is evidence and witnesses, the matter must be investigated by the Election Commission and the police.

“I believe this should not have happened. We must reject such practices,” he told reporters after attending a TVET event.

Earlier, a claim went viral on social media alleging that a political party had offered bribes to voters in an attempt to secure votes during the Negri Sembilan polls.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said Barisan’s manifesto will be implemented if the coalition forms the Negri Sembilan government, while suitable proposals from its allies will also be considered.

“If given the mandate, we will implement Barisan’s manifesto. We will also take into account those of our allies,” he said after at event in Chuah.

The Barisan chairman was commenting on a statement by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who questioned which manifesto would be implemented if Barisan and Perikatan Nasional form the next state government.

Taking a swipe at both coalitions’ electoral pact, Muhyiddin asked how two separate manifestos could be reconciled effectively.

Despite launching separate manifestos, Perikatan has since pledged that it will complement those announced by Barisan.

Barisan and Perikatan have an electoral understanding for the Negri Sembilan polls, contesting 25 and 11 seats respectively.
