PETALING JAYA: Six Immigration officers and a policeman are among 12 individuals detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for their alleged involvement in a syndicate that hacked the Malaysia Immigration System (MyIMMs).
The syndicate had allegedly breached the system to illegally approve Temporary Employment Visit Pass (PLKS) applications.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said those arrested during Ops Crack on Tuesday (July 28) included four Immigration officers, two officers from the Immigration Department's Information Technology Division, a police officer, two company directors, and three foreign nationals.
"The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Immigration Department on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of 12 individuals aged 30 to 40," Abd Halim said in a statement on Wednesday (July 29).
"The arrests took place between 2pm and 5pm at the MACC headquarters and the Penang Immigration Department."
Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate exploited the 2011 PLKS (Temporary Employment Visit Pass) quota to bypass official levies. A total of 1,306 fraudulent PLKS passes were issued, causing an estimated RM2.4mil in revenue losses to the government.
Abd Halim added that MACC officers also raided several corporate premises and Immigration offices across Penang and Putrajaya to gather evidence under Sections 17(a) and 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
All suspects are expected to be brought to the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court today for remand applications.
The crackdown follows joint intelligence gathering by the MACC Intelligence Division and the Immigration Department since May 2026, focusing on illegal syndicate activities operating across the Klang Valley and Penang.
