Police report lodged against Kedah MB over remarks


SEREMBAN: Police have received a report against Perikatan Nasional election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (pic) over remarks allegedly made during a ceramah while campaigning for the 16th Negri Sembilan election.

State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the report was lodged by a 40-year-old man at the Bandar Seri Jempol police station on Friday.

“The complainant was ­unhappy with a news report published by an online portal regarding a ­ceramah by the Kedah Mentri Besar.

“The case is being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief,” he said in a statement.

DCP Alzafny said the investigation is also being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities or services.

He said police have received 16 reports related to election offen­ces since nomination day and have opened 11 investigation papers.

Separately, DCP Alzafny said police received 69 applications for ceramah and other campaign-­related activities on Friday, all of which were approved.

“Since nomination day, we have received 345 applications, of which 322 were approved.

“We will continue to enhance compliance monitoring and enforcement throughout the state election.

“The public is advised to conti­nue complying with the law, respect the democratic process and give their full cooperation to the police to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful, harmonious and orderly manner.”
