PETALING JAYA: Firm action will be taken against anyone found guilty in the recent fight involving a group of students that went viral, said the Selangor Education Department (JPN).
In a statement on Friday (July 24), JPN Selangor said it is treating the incident seriously and noted that the case is currently under police investigation.
“JPN Selangor is extending its full cooperation to the authorities and does not tolerate any form of violent misconduct involving members of its school community.
“Counselling and guidance interventions are being provided to the students involved,” the statement read.
The department also urged the public to refrain from speculating or sharing unverified information about the incident.
“Disseminating the identities of minors involved in the case is an offence under the law,” it said.
On July 24, it was reported that several students were arrested following a brawl outside a secondary school in Seri Kembangan that left a 16-year-old boy and his father injured.
Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the incident, captured in a viral video, occurred on the afternoon of July 3 as the victim walked towards his father's motorcycle.
The victim suffered injuries to his lips and knees, alongside bruises and body aches.
His father, who tried to intervene, was assaulted, knocked to the ground, and sustained injuries to his hands and legs.
The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
