ISKANDAR PUTERI: Two first-time MCA assemblymen are among the 10 newly appointed deputy state executive councillors in the Johor government.

Layang-Layang assemblyman Chua Jian Boon was appointed deputy chairman of the unity, heritage and culture committee, while Johor Jaya assemblyman Chan San San is now the deputy chairman of the women, family and community development committee.

Chan, 46, said she views the appointment as a major responsibility and hopes that her experience in community work will help her in her new role.

"I hope to help address issues related to domestic violence and abuse cases, as I have previously handled many cases like these.

"Perhaps I can bring these issues to the state executive council to explore ways to resolve them," she said, adding that she would be meeting Johor women, family and community development committee chairman Hasrunizah Hassan soon to further discuss their areas of focus.

Meanwhile, Chua, 33, said he was grateful for the opportunity and trust given by the state government and would do his best to carry out his duties.

"I am very grateful, but I also understand that this is a major responsibility and I must do my best for the people of Johor.

"I will be having a meeting with the state executive councillors soon so that we can further discuss our focus and direction," he said.

Earlier, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the appointment of 10 deputy state executive councillors.

He said the appointments were part of the state's efforts to strengthen state administration and ensure all its initiatives are carried out effectively.
