Negri polls: Nine reports lodged, five investigation papers opened since nomination day, say cops


SEREMBAN: Police have received nine reports and opened five investigation papers related to alleged election offences for the Negri Sembilan polls.

State CPO Dep Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the reports were received since nomination day on July 18 till yesterday.

"On Tuesday (July 21), we received two reports and have opened one investigation paper.

"The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief with fire," he said in a statement.

DCP Alzafny said police also approved 32 of the 35 applications for permits for ceramah and related-campaign politics received on Tuesday (July 21).

Since nomination day, the police have approved 173 of the178 applications received.

He said the police will monitor all programmes and activities to ensure these were held in compliance with the law.

"We will continue to enhance the level of compliance and enforcement throughout this state election.

"The public is advised to continue to comply with the law, respect the democratic process and give full cooperation to the police to ensure the election takes place in a peaceful, harmonious and orderly environment," he added.
